Overland Park Fire Station 41 is a flagship public facility—and its solar delivers, producing over half of the building’s electricity use. SunSmart designed and built a ballasted, zero-penetration rooftop system to meet very challenging weight limits, re-engineering the design multiple times as roof conditions deviated from plan—including once mid-construction, when we developed creative solutions on the fly. We also re-engineered the interconnection method to avoid costly conflicts with the building’s generator, keeping the project on track without compromising requirements.
